Do I need car insurance?

When you get a rental car it is nearly always a good idea to make sure you are fully covered with regards to insurance, just in case anything does go wrong. Having an accident in a car is stressful enough as it is, let alone in another country with someone else’s car, so make sure you are as protected as possible. In some cases you can get rental car insurance for around $20 a day, which isn’t much for the added peace of mind that it brings. If you can’t afford fully comp insurance then you should at least get some basic insurance, although I would always recommend going for the comprehensive option.

Can I rent a car in Spain without a credit card?

I can’t use personal experience for this one, but I have been told that there are companies that accept debit cards in Spain for car rental, but many don’t. You should definitely check this before you visit to be on the safe side. Some will also accept cash and even cheques in a small minority, but before you go it is vital that you make sure there are companies that do this from your airport if you are going to get the hire car when you are out in Spain.

Can I rent a car at any age?

This may vary between companies, but in most cases you need to have at least a year’s driving experience. Some companies will also require a minimum age, so make sure you read the small print to find out what that is before hiring a car.
